Forklift & Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Clover Machinery Movers is a growing machine moving and rigging company specializing in the transportation, installation, relocation, and handling of heavy machinery and industrial equipment.  Our equipment fleet includes everything from standard warehouse forklifts to large-capacity, specialized forklifts used to move extremely heavy machinery. We are looking for an experienced, dependable Forklift & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to help keep our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to work.  This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys diagnosing problems, fixing equipment, and taking pride in keeping machinery operating properly.

Job Responsibilities

The Forklift & Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our forklift fleet and related equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on forklifts and heavy material-handling equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain problems.
• Troubleshoot starting, charging, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, hoses, pumps, valves, and fittings.
• Service and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, steering systems, and drive systems.
• Inspect and maintain forks, masts, chains, carriage assemblies, tires, wheels, and other load-bearing components.
• Perform inspections to identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components before equipment is placed into service.
• Troubleshoot intermittent and difficult-to-diagnose equipment problems.
• Perform welding and fabrication repairs when needed.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Keep track of maintenance schedules, parts, fluids, and repairs.
• Communicate with management regarding equipment condition, needed repairs, parts, and estimated downtime.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs when necessary.
• Work safely around heavy machinery, forklifts, rigging equipment, and industrial work environments.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and service area.
• Assist with equipment inspections and preparation before major machine-moving and rigging projects.
• Be willing to work on both standard forklifts and oversized/high-capacity forklifts designed to move heavy industrial machinery.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have strong practical mechanical skills and be comfortable diagnosing problems rather than simply replacing parts.

Required or strongly preferred:

• Previous experience repairing forklifts, heavy equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar machinery.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of 12V/24V electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance.
• Ability to use diagnostic tools, meters, pressure gauges, and standard mechanic's tools.
• Ability to safely operate or work around forklifts and heavy equipment.
• Ability to identify equipment safety issues and determine when equipment should be removed from service.
• Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities with limited supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe equipment operation.

Valuable Additional Skills

The following experience is a plus:

• High-capacity or rough-terrain forklift experience.
• Experience with large-capacity forklifts used in industrial machine moving.
• Diesel and gasoline engine repair.
• Propane/LPG fuel systems.
• Transmission and drivetrain repair.
• Hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
• Welding and fabrication.
• Experience with telehandlers, loaders, boom lifts, cranes, or other heavy equipment.
• Experience working in industrial plants or manufacturing facilities.
• Experience in machine moving, millwright, rigging, or heavy hauling operations.
• Manufacturer-specific forklift training or certifications.
• Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment.

The Person We're Looking For

We are a small company, so dependability, common sense, and willingness to get your hands dirty are extremely important.  We need someone who can look at a piece of equipment that isn't working correctly, figure out why, and determine the best way to repair it.  You should be comfortable saying: "I'll figure it out."  We're looking for a mechanic who takes ownership of the fleet and understands that keeping our equipment running isn't just about fixing a machine—it keeps our crews working and our customers' projects moving.  The right person will have the ability to prioritize repairs, recognize potential safety problems, communicate clearly, and take pride in maintaining equipment to a high standard.

Working Conditions

This is a hands-on position that may involve:

• Working in a shop and outdoors.
• Working around heavy machinery and industrial equipment.
• Working in manufacturing plants and customer facilities.
• Working in tight or difficult-to-access areas.
• Lifting and handling tools, parts, hoses, and equipment components.
• Occasional emergency or field repairs.
• Occasional travel to customer job sites.
• Working around dirt, grease, hydraulic fluid, diesel fuel, and other normal shop conditions.
